How to reduce dryness of the hands?
It is often to see people with dry hands due to continuous exposure to chemicals during household works, construction works, work in chemical factories and gardening. There are many methods to prevent and manage dryness of the hands.
Prevention of dryness of the hands
  • Wear protective gloves, when your hands come in contact with chemicals
  • Avoid alcohol based products for applying on the hands
  • Use lukewarm water for washing hands
  • Avoid exposure to sun and wear cotton hand gloves when you are out
  • Drink plenty of water daily
  • Apply oil or moisturizing cream on hands after washing
Management of dryness of the hands
  • Apply olive oil/ almond oil on the hands and massage it for 10 minutes till it gets absorbed onto the skin
  • Apply petroleum jelly on the hands and massage it for 10 minutes till it gets absorbed onto the skin
  • Expose your hands to steam often. It will help to remove dead skin from the hands 
  • Do Manicure often at home
  • Apply gel of the aloe vera plant on the hands and wash it with lukewarm water after 10 minutes

  1. Smash a piece of banana with honey, apply it on face and wash it after 30 minutes.
  2. Smash a piece of banana with curd, apply it on face and wash it after 30 minutes.
  3. Mix banana pulp, tomato juice and cucumber juice, apply on face, wash it after 30 minutes.
  4. Mix banana pulp with gram flour, apply on face, massage gently in circular motion and wash it after 10 minutes. It can be used as natural face scrub.
  5. Another way of making face scrub is, mix one teaspoon of  banana pulp, one teaspoon of cucumber juice, one pinch of sugar and two teaspoon of rice flour together, make a paste, apply on face, massage gently in circular motion and wash it after 10 minutes.
  6. Before applying make up, mix cooled rose water and frozen banana pulp, apply for 15 minutes. It will retain makeup for long time and enhance the glow of the make up.

Onions are rich is sulfur, the mineral which is one of the main building blocks of hair. It has anti bacterial properties, helps to fight infections of the scalp and hair follicles. It also contains enzyme catalase, is an anti oxidant helps to prevent premature greying.
There are many methods to apply this;
  • Take a litre of water, boil it with 2 onion pieces and soak it overnight and wash the hair by using this mixture.
  • In a mixer grinder, take onions and egg white and grind it. Apply on scalp and wash it with mild shampoo after 30 minutes.

Ways to reduce belly

It is to be noticed that having fat deposited belly is a warning sign of accumulation of fat in the body. It may lead to life style diseases. I believe in prevention is better than cure, however, there are some ways to reduce belly size, of course, it needs long term hard work, commitment and patience. You cannot see results in one day.
  • Please practice to contract the abdominal muscles always, which means, hold the belly inside when you walk, sit and stand
  • When you do exercise, massage the abdomen to make the muscles strong (avoid during pregnancy and any other related contra indications)
  • Avoid large menus daily.Try to have less portion of food at regular intervals
  • Avoid carbohydrate rich foods
  • Avoid fat rich foods
  • Avoid sugar sweetened beverages
  • Include plenty of vegetables and fruits
  • Eat food rich in fiber
  • Always try to maintain Body Mass Index less than 25
                (BMI= weight in kilogram/ height in meter X height in meter)
  • Maintain waist circumference <90cm for males and  <85cm for males

No need to worry about tan on neck.Here, I am posting home remedies for reducing the tan on skin.
  1. Before taking bath, massage the neck area with coconut oil/ olive oil.
  2. Mix tomato juice and oats, apply on tanned area and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
  3. Apply rose water daily before outing.
  4. Extract gel from aloe vera plant and apply on neck and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
  5. Mix sugar and honey, apply on neck and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
  6. You can also apply thick rice water and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
  7. Mix papaya and  gram flour, apply on neck and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
  8. Mix oats and curd, apply on neck and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
  9. Apply cucumber and lime juice and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
  10. Mix orange juice, carrot juice and creamy layer of milk,apply on neck and wash it with tap water after 20 minutes.
Moreover, when you are out, cover the body with thick cotton cloth to avoid direct exposure from sunlight or use double layered umbrella rather than sunlight protection creams as it contains chemicals to block the UV rays.
In some people, tan on skin occurs due to fat deposition around the neck, an early sign of weight gaining.These people have to do daily exercise, drink plenty of water and avoid high calorie diet.

Dandruff may be the result of dry skin or accumulated dust called seborrheic dermatitis. It might be caused by eczema, psoriasis or over growth of fungus. 
  • Apply olive oil on the hair and wash it.
  • Apply curd and lime juice on the scalp and hair, wash it after one hour.
  • Apply onion juice on the scalp and wash it after 30 minutes.
  • Apply home made henna once in a month.
  • Add neem leaves in boiling water, extract the neem juice, apply it on scalp and wash it after 30 minutes.
  • Apply light warm coconut oil on scalp, massage it for 2 minutes. With lice comb, peel the dandruff from the scalp and wash the hair with anti dandruff shampoo.
  • Soak the fenugreek overnight and grind it in mixer grinder. Apply the paste in scalp and hair and wash it after one hour.
To be noted: Those who are having fever, running nose, cough, low immunity or other any opportunistic infections, do not follow it. Once you are physically healthy, can go for it.

Hair fall is a night mare for every one. When the age increases by minutes, the problems with the hair also increases. Here, I am writing some tips to prevent hair fall at home in the midst of busy scheduled life.
  1. Massage your hair with coconut/olive/almond oil once in a week.It will help to keep the hair moistened and improve the blood circulation to scalp and hair follicle.
  2. When you are out, cover your hair with towel, helps to avoid exposure to sunlight and dust.
  3. Shampoo the hair twice in a week, only after oil massage.
  4. Wash hair daily in tap water
  5. Be relaxed always
  6. Sleep for minimum 8 hours daily 
  7. Drink plenty of water
  8. Include fruits and vegetable in your daily diet
  9. Exercise daily, helps to improve blood circulation to all parts of the body
  10. Apply onion juice/ egg white on scalp, wash with shampoo after 30 minutes, if time permits
  11. Don't coomb your wet hair
  12. Soak fenugreek in water overnight, grind it, apply on scalp and hair, wash it with shampoo after 1 hour and try to do once in a month atleast.

Keep your skin moisturized.

  • If your skin is dry in nature, massage your skin with coconut/olive oil then, go for showering after one hour.

Drink plenty of water
Avoid sun exposure- There are many ways to avoid sun exposure instead of applying sun cream, as it is enriched with many chemicals to block U V rays

  • Use double coated umbrella when you are out
  • Cover your head, face, neck and hands using cotton cloth
  • Use sun glasses for eyes
  • Wear socks 

Eat foods with antioxidants such as fruits and vegetables.

Include Vitamin C rich foods in your diet
Take bath daily and keep your body clean round the clock
Avoid stressful events in your life. When you are stressed, take deep breathing exercise for five minutes and divert your mind by engaging yourself in some other activities
Sleep for 8 hours minimum daily
The most important thing is daily aerobic exercise, which helps to circulate oxygenated blood through out the body.

For everyone, healthy skin is a dream especially when years of age increases. Now a days, middle aged people are quite tensed to select cosmetics and to approach beauty salons to halt the aging process. It is remembered that along with cosmetics, selection and rejection of foods are also important to have healthy skin. Here, I listed the foods to be avoided for healthy skin.
  • Junk foods: 
These foods are rich in saturated fats and carbohydrates, which increases the chances of getting pimples and high blood sugar level. Instead of this, try to include foods are rich in antioxidants.
  • Soft drinks : 
These are rich in high sugar and preservatives. It causes loss of appetite and reduces the immunity of the body to fight the bacteria. Moreover, there is a high chance of getting recurrent skin infections.
  • Fried snacks :
 As it is rich in high calorie and fat, it increases the blood cholesterol level and causes oily face with pimples. To get rid of this, we should avoid fried snacks and non vegetarian items.
  • Alcohol : 
The high amount of alcohol increases the urination, causes dehydration and finally results in wrinkled skin. To avoid this, we should drink minimum 3-5 litres of water especially in summer season.
  • Caffeine: 
The caffeine stimulates the production of cortisol hormone, thus it leads to weight gain and aging. We should limit the intake of caffeine rich foods for the healthy skin.

How to apply oil

Step 1: Warm oil in a bowl with low flame.

Step 2: Take partition in your hair, dip your finger tips in warm oil and apply it on scalp.

Step 3: Gently massage the scalp in a circular motion.

Step 4: Then, apply left over oil on hair and cover it with towel. Allow it to soak for two hours and wash it with mild shampoo. Do it regularly twice in a week.

Ingredients:
  • Tea powder- 3 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds-25 gm
  • Curry leaves- 30 no.
  • Henna powder/ Mehndi leaves-50 gm /50 no.
  • Gooseberry- 5 no.
  • Curd- 50 ml
  • Egg- 1 no.
  • Iron Vessel- 1 no.
Method:

Step 1: Add tea powder, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves in boiling water and let it boil for 10 minutes in low flame.Then, allow it to cool.

Step 2: Grind the gooseberry in a mixer grinder, add the above mentioned solution and again grind it. If you are using mehndi leaves, add it and grind it.

Step 3: Or else, add henna powder and curd and mix it well. Then, keep it in an iron vessel for 24 hours in room temperature.

Step 4: When you are about to apply on hair, add an egg and mix it well. Apply on the scalp and hair, wrap the hair with a cloth and keep it for 2-3 hours. Then, wash it with a mild shampoo.

It is really effective to prevent hair fall, dandruff, and to check premature greying of hair.

Manicure at Home

Manicure helps to improve the appearance of nails and palm through the removal of dead cells and moisturizing the skin.

Articles needed are a basin of warm water, shampoo, nail cutter, sugar based scrub, flour pack, olive oil and nail polish. Firstly, mix shampoo in warm water and stir it well. Soak your palms for 10 minutes. Cut your nails with nail cutter and shape it.

For preparing scrub, take 2 tsp of sugar, 1 tsp of lemon juice, 2 tsp of rice flour and 1 tsp of honey. Mix it well, massage your arms with this mixture, wait for 10 minutes and wash it with warm water.

For applying pack, take 4 tsp of gram flour( Kadala mavu) and 3 tsp of curd, mix it well and apply on your arms. Wash it after 10 minutes. Apply olive oil and massage it for 5 minutes. Let it be absorbed into your skin. Apply nail polish on your own choice.
